Dock History

In July 1980 the first wood dock was designed for the Dock Factory & Supply Company.

The original design underwent minor changes in 1981-1982.

Our modular design is attractive and has proven durable.

In the 1990’s wood prices skyrocketed and the quality of wood declined.  This started the research into how we would produce the next generation of docks.  The docks were analyzed in three groups: Frame, Flotation and Decking.

Frame

Aluminum was considered, and is a good material, but was cost prohibitive for our next generation system.

Light Weight Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel Channel was selected for our new system.  One of the primary advantages is that this steel product is available in any length.  We regularly build modules forty feet long without any splicing.  The modules are quite light and strong. Transporting fully assembled modules is easy.

Flotation

The Army Corps. Of Engineers has established flotation criteria for docks.

Fred  Hunt (Fredrick G. Hunt, P.E.) has explained the criteria for flotation for many years. His Hunt Absorption Test is the industry standard.

We use flotation that meets the criteria of both standards.

Decking

Plastic decking has proven to be the best surface.

·     Surface heat is not a problem for bare feet.

· No splinters

·     Non-skid properties are consistent with industry standards.

· No refinishing

·     No wood preservative or cleaning chemicals.

· No carpet to replace
