MARINE INDUSTRY STANDARDS FOR ENCAPSULATED FLOTATION
US Army Corp of Engineers Regulation 33CFR Part 327.30 - Flotation materials shall be 100% warranted against sinking, becoming water logged, cracking, peeling, fragmenting, or loosing beads. All floats shall resist puncture and penetration, and shall not be subject to damage by animals under normal conditions for the area.
ASTM D1998-04 Falling Dart Impact Test - Validates manufacturer's use of virgin raw materials and high quialty molding process by testing float shells for cracking or shattering under a minimum impact load of 90ft/lbs.
7-Day Hunt Water Absorption Test - Ensures a void-free foam fill that adds strength and preserves buoyancy should a float be damaged; and specifies a maximum water absorption level for foam fill at a maximum of 3.0 lbs/cuft.
Encasement Wall Thickness Standard - Specifies that flotation must have a nominal wall thickness of 0.150" with no spot less than 0/125" to eliminate flotation with potential failure points caused by below minimum wall thickness.
Certified, Tank-Tested Buoyancy Ratings - Ensures accurate buoyancy ratings on which to base float size and quantity requirements to support the dock.
